The sultry combo AS MENINAS is led by Monica Vasconcelos who sings most of the songs in Portuguese, with introductions in English. The saxophone 'role' of Stan Getz is played by Ingrid Laubrock, the Sao Paulo guitarist is Ife Tolentino, and the percussionist is Chris Wells. Onder Focan, the leading Turkish jazz guitarist in an 'East meets West' collaboration:- 'A TOUCH OF SPICE'. Focan is joined by the highly acclaimed UK bassist Malcolm Creese in the wonderfully mellow "Metheny/Haden duo format". Following their appearance at the London Guitar Festival, they will be playing this one concert in Sevenoaks in aid of St Luke's Millenium Fund. The evening will include readings of Turkish poetry and English translations that have inspired some of the music. The poetry readers will include Joy Pennells. |

Barravento - Brazilian Samba

Barravento are in Europe for the ¡®Fiesta des Suds¡¯ at Marseilles in the South of France, but also in Dartford, a coup for The Mick Jagger Centre in conjuncion with Ritmundi, World Arts Promotion. This Brazilian Band band will playsuch rhythms as Samba de Roda & Forro. You will not be able to stay seated. The Mick Jagger Centre has a licensed bar & a great atmosphere. The auditorium provides raked seating with a good view for all, plus space for those driven to respond by dancing to the Brazilian Samba beat. |

Campbell Burnap's Quintet

Jazz FM's Campbell Burnap came with his trombone, his voice and his superb Mainstream Quintet: Nick Dawson-piano, Ron Drake-reeds, Richie Bryant-drums and John Rees-Jones-bass. The second picture from the left shows Sue Rivers guest singing with Campbell Burnap. Sue is a local singer who recently had ner CD played by Campbell on his Jazz FM programme. |
